Brandon E. Petersen, 33, of Newton, was found guilty of first-degree murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and unlawful taking of a means of conveyance, Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson said. He was acquitted of his witness tampering charge.

Petersen, who’s been imprisoned for most of his adult life, was arrested in Pennsylvania the morning after stabbing 38-year-old Michelle Carkhuff at a home on Kingwood Stockton Road in Delaware Township in December 2020, Daily Voice previously reported.
Carkhuff was rushed by a friend to a Mercer County hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Petersen faces a mandatory state prison term of between 30 years to life and must serve 30 years before parole eligibility.
Petersen was remanded to the Warren County Correctional Center pending his sentencing, which is scheduled for Friday, July 14.
